Photo ID, Care ID, Copies of X-Ray, CT and/or MRI reports, All Medications/or a list including any blood thinners, An English speaking translator if you don't speak english.

Yes. We accept referrals from physicians, nurse practitioners.

2.)How soon can I book for an appointment?

Appointments can be booked within 1-2 weeks of receiving the referral.

3.)How long does the infusion take?

Infusion takes 20-60 minutes.

4.)What do I need to prepare before the infusion?

Wearing comfortable clothing, well hydrated, companion during infusion and a ride after.

5.)Do I need to continue taking oral iron supplements?

You do not need to continue taking oral iron supplements unless specifically instructed by your doctor.

6.)What should I expect during infusion?

During treatment you will be carefully observed by the doctor or nurse for possible side effects or adverse reactions (headache, hypotension, nausea, vomiting).

7.)How much do iron infusions cost?

The cost of the iron medication varies and is dependent on individual coverage: BC Fair Pharmacare coverage (make sure you have registered Extended Health Insurance.

8.)How do I get the iron medication?

We will send a prescription to Macdonald’s Pharmacy. Patients will get a phone call from Macdonald’s Pharmacy and they will be able to apply their insurance and Fair Pharmacare coverage immediately over the phone and will need to pay any remaining amount. The medication will be delivered to the clinic.

10.)When do I start to notice improvement?

Maximum hemoglobin response to IV iron usually occurs within 2-3 weeks of the last dose.
